His
tender-gritty approach – a slap in the face to so many
“male photographers” stuck on contrived soft focus
compositions of steroid victims, conch shells and a g-strings-
has won awards and the patronage of the likes of keen collector
Elton John.
It’s
been two years since photographer Kobi Israel debut exhibition
Views opened in London, and in that time he has established
himself as one of the brightest lights of London’s contemporary
scene. The exhibition is a document of solo life – vibrant,
estranged and yet, somehow, magically warm.
Kobi
takes a way of life which we are often told might look spectacular
but in truth is cold and callous and flushes it with love, warmth
and intimacy. precisely the interaction that we’ve begun
to think keep gay men at arm’s length – the one
night stands, the cruising, the clubs, the beaches – are
in kobi’s world, the thing that draw us together even
tighter.
