Die noch nicht allzu lang zurückliegende friedlichere Zeit dokumentiert der Fotograf Kobi Israel mit seinen bunt-fröhlichen Männerakten. Kobi Israel wurde 1970 in Tel Aviv geboren, noch heute lebt er in Israel. Er fotografiert Landschaften, Brücken und Menschen und gestaltet CD-Cover. Auch als Lehrer und Flugbegleiter hat er schon gearbeitet. Seine Arbeit ist mehrfach ausgezeichnet worden. Ein Selbstporträt von Kobi Israel findet Ihr übrigens am Ende dieser Bildershow.

Kobi Israel, 31 Jahre alt, ist in der Kunstszene von Tel-Aviv, London, Nizza oder New York schon lange kein unbeschriebenes Blatt mehr.

Mit seinen Kunstprojekten konnte er bereits viele Preise gewinnen. Seine Fotos finden sich nicht nur auf CD-Hüllen berühmter Sänger oder den Deckeln von Foto- und Reisemagazinen wider; man findet sie auch auf den Umschlägen dickerer Bücher.

Auch Homosexuellenmagazine greifen gerne auf die Bilder des Israeli zurück, denn der Künstler fotografiert nicht nur Landschaften, Menschenansammlungen, Events oder Pflanzen - auch die Aktfotografie ist Bestandteil seiner Arbeit.

What motivates you ?
I’m very curious about life, about people and their thoughts and feelings. The camera is the most instant and intuitive tool of our times to immortalise moments and feelings. The real challenge for me is to try and capture ‘the inside’ rather than ‘the outside’.

talentX: How much of an artist's skill do you think is dependent on instinct, and how much is based on training/professional schooling? Is instinct improved upon at a subconscious level by training, or is it something more mystical and profound? Is it something that some artists are born with, and some don't seem to have no matter how much they train? Or is it something that can be altered and shaped by the right kind of instruction?

Kobi: It is all a matter of "internal truth". You need to feel the URGE to photograph. It should be a kind of FIRE burning inside you. You can become a good artist/photographer in many different ways; you can create your own art based on your character. There's a wide scale of human character, ranging from the emotional to the intellectual; all you need is the integrity to be who you are. So I believe this side is based on instinct.

It was a primary and instant way to respond to and to express the overwhelming emotions inside me. My photography then was based on my instincts. I've let myself follow my heart.I did not put any thought into it and did not plan anything. I was afraid to analyze the scenes, afraid I might lose the power of the instinct.
